DON’T LET ME FORGET!!!
would you like to see more art, music or writing?
Because I can’t decide.
Please help.
This is just a little drawing I did quickly the other day and by quickly, I actually mean it took me a couple of hours.
It’s a style that I’ve been doing for years, I came up with it myself, but I’m sure others have done it before. It’s nothing fancy but I think it can look really good in things.
I had the thought of doing the pattern in a spiral form, but concealing it much better than what I did. At first look, the spiral is shown as a single ‘track’, but if you look closer, that’s actually the gap between two ‘tracks’. Make sense?
Basically what I’m saying is, look closely at it. (Click the high res link)
I’ll do many drawings using this style, along with that checkered one I do aswell, in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
Well that’s it, my guitar is FINALLY finished and operational once again!
On closer inspection there are several things wrong with it, but I kinda like it that way. This was my first go at painting a guitar and I wanted it to look that way. I’ve tried to be a perfectionist all my life and with this I just said “f*** it!” and I’m happy with the result!
The guitar is a ‘cheap rip-off brand’ of a Fender Strat, meaning it doesn’t sound great to begin with, so I thought what is the point in doing a perfect painting on it?
I like it.
Alright, my guitar is done. Or is it?
I think it’s done, but do you think it needs more?
P.S. My phone camera is really bad, but it was all I had :(
This is taking forever, but here’s what I’ve done so far. It still needs a few touch ups but the overall guitar is 80% complete.
Here’s a little treat, kinda.
I started painting on the back of my guitar a few days ago, this is it so far, MORE TO COME!!!
Year 12 Body Of Work 2: Guitar by Blake Thornley, 2011.
Painting on my electric guitar done in the style of Native American artworks from the north-west coast. Eagle on the left and a sun sort-of thing in the center.
If you thinks this looks unfinished, you are correct, I only planned on doing the front for art class and then doing the back and sides at home, so then I can do whatever I want, instead of following a specific theme.
Year 12 Body Of Work 2: Journey Through The Afterlife by Blake Thornley, 2011.
Pencil drawing of an abstract scene inspired by Tarot cards, progressive-rock and specific song lyrics/titles by Led Zeppelin, Rick Wakeman and Rush.
Year 12 Body Of Work 2: Return To Forever by Blake Thornley, 2011
Screen print and pen drawing of the legendary jazz-fusion band, Return To Forever, from the audience’s point of view.
This is me mucking around in a Chinese scale on the guitar part 2.
Once again don’t expect much, just enjoy, maybe.
Please let me know: what you think of it; what I should do next; or whether to give up entirely.
P.S. That isn’t the camera playing tricks, I am actually playing sideways.
This is me mucking around in a Chinese Scale on the guitar.
My wonderful friend Denie uploaded it onto YouTube cause tumblr wouldn’t let me upload it.
Don’t expect greatness, this is only improvisation on the spot and the quality isn’t great, hell, you can’t even see me. See what you think anyway!
Year 12 Body of Work 1: Qín shìfàng qí nèizài jīngshén by Blake Thornley, 2011.
Painting influenced by Chinese paintings, calligraphy, culture and philosophy. Symbolises the connection between music, nature, martial arts and the emperor.
The two martial artists at the bottom were rushed a bit and well the all thing was rushed too I guess (just making excuses now).
Again the problem with the black and bad photography on my part (the dots on the black is the reflection of the roof on the glass of the frame.)
Year 12 Body of Work 1: In My Time of Dying by Blake Thornley, 2011.
Pencil drawing of an abstract scene inspired by artworks of my father.
(Sorry about the uneven black bit at the top, but this piece is framed, so that is the backing behind it. Plus my awful photography made it uneven.)
